LA Roddick

LA RODDICK has dedicated her life to developing and performing music as well as educating others with her vast knowledge and expertise.

RODDICK entered the scene as a young artist, fresh from a Musical Theatre background.   A seasoned singer, dancer and actor for Viacom Paramount Canada’s Wonderland and a new face ready to take on the world of music and the recording industry.
Roddick’s powerful and emoting voice instantly garnered praise and attention from highly regarded industry veterans such as; writer and producer, Stephan Maccio (Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Sara Brightman, Nikki Yanoffsky…), Bonnie Federo (EMI Records) and many others.  With the encouragement of these individuals along with her unstoppable drive, Laura took their advice and began to really hone in on her talent.
For the next few years, while educating herself, attending Sheridan Colleges’, Musical Theatre program and Humber Colleges’ jazz program, Roddick spent many hours in the recording studio working on demos with world-renown musicians; drummer, Randy Cooke  (Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Kelly Clarkson…), guitarist, Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Colin James, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings…), guitarist, Justin Abedin (Nelly Furtado, Divine Brown, Jacksoul…), keyboardist, Joel Joseph (Nelly Furtado, Jully Black, Glenn Lewis…),  producers Dave Hodge (Metric, Feist, Broken Social Scene…) and Dan Brodbeck (Dolores O'Riordan-“The Cranberries”…), engineers, Richard Chycki (P. Diddy, Pink, Aerosmith), Nick Blagona (Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Police,…) and songwriters Thomas Wade (Celine Dion, Beverley Mahood…), Larry Wayne Clark and others.
In addition to her multi-genre recording sessions, Roddick decided it was time to find her true musical individuality and style.  With this goal in mind, she began performing live with her own band at various venues in and around Toronto, ON. This world of live entertainment gave Laura the experiences to test out the various musical styles allowing her to find what truly resonated within her.   She played with R&B, Rock and Pop bands, a thirteen piece Funk band, a Jazz trio, a Canadian touring Disco tribute band, and a North American touring 40’s and 50’s tribute band. Within a year she had established herself as one of the most in demand, vibrant performers in Canada.
Over the past 12 years Roddick has found her home in Regina.  She spent the first few years playing with her own band, “Sound Decision” across the Prairie Provinces.   She also spent time flying across the Country, touring and recording with internationally known Pop- Country group, “Lace (with Canadian artist Beverley Mahood).  Their first single (with Roddick as their new member) was released to radio in 2005 and was entitled “Can You Handle It”.  This new lineup was a huge hit among fans.  Roddick’s powerful and soulful vocals brought depth to the overall sound of the band.
Roddick continued to further her musical versatility by working as a sideman, playing keyboards with several local bands and recording artists such as Jess Moskaluke, J.J. Voss, Brian Kelly, Sheila Deck, Foxxworthee, Casey Stone, Stephanie Thompson and others.  While continuing to forward her musical career, she was also learning to hone in on her business sense while attending the University of Regina’s business program.  In 2011, Roddick was awarded a large grant from Rawlco Radio to fund a, full length, solo album under the name L.A. RODDICK.
Currently Roddick is in her 11th year acting as head of the Vocal and Piano program at her husband’s (along with his business partner) business, “Music in the House”, which is the #1 music education school in Regina and is home to almost 400 students.   Roddick takes great pride in educating and giving incredible experiences and opportunities to those who exert a passion for music. Teaching is one of her biggest passions!  In 2012, Roddick brought an expansion to Music in the House with the introduction of the highly regarded, “MUSIC FOR YOUNG CHILDREN” program.  The program has been around for 36 years and is taught on 3 continents to roughly 24,000 students annually.  Roddick and “Music in the House” is very proud to offer this wonderful musical experience to our city!
Roddick has temporarily taken time away from performing to put her focus and energy on being a mom to her almost four-year old son. She is also absolutely thrilled to continue educating others through both private voice and piano lessons and Music for Young Children (MYC) classes and hopes to continue doing so for many years to come!
